Fixed Screen Panels · Dallas–Fort Worth

For the openings that stay closed.

Framed panels set into the openings you never need to open: SunTex for sun, No-See-Ums for insects, or glass and polycarbonate where the weather has to stay out. Clear, tinted or frosted.

What is involved

Made to the opening, finished to the house.

The frames

Made to each measured opening and finished to match the window frames or the trim, so the panels read as part of the house rather than something added to it.

The infill

Phifer SunTex 80 or 90 for sun with the view kept, No-See-Ums where insects are the problem, or glass and polycarbonate for a patio used through the winter.

With a door

Panels and doors are made together, so the lines, the finish and the screen match across the whole elevation.

Fixed or motorized

A fixed panel suits an opening nobody walks through and nobody needs open: the side of a patio, the gap beside a fireplace, the space under a stair. It costs less than a motorized screen and has nothing to wear out. Where the view or the breeze matters at different times of day, a motorized screen earns its motor.

SunTex 80 and 90 belong in frames

The heavier SunTex weaves are made for framed panels, not for rolling up. They stop about 80 and 90 percent of the sun and keep more of the view than the roller fabrics do. They come in four colors, and the darker ones are the easier ones to see through.

Glass and polycarbonate

Where rain, wind and cold have to stay out, the frame takes glass or polycarbonate instead of mesh, in clear, tinted or frosted. It turns a covered patio into a room you can use in January, and it is planned with the doors so the whole opening closes.

Questions we get asked

Fixed Screen Panels: the questions clients ask us first.

Can one patio have fixed panels and motorized screens?

Often it should. Fixed panels on the sides and a motorized screen across the opening you look through is a common arrangement, and the fabrics and finishes are chosen to match.

Which infill keeps the most view?

SunTex 80 or No-See-Ums. Both are open weaves; SunTex 80 also stops about 80 percent of the sun, and No-See-Ums is made for insects first.

Do panels need maintenance?

Very little. Mesh panels want a wash with mild soap and water once or twice a year; glass and polycarbonate are cleaned like windows.

Where do fixed panels go on a motorized patio?

Wherever a roll cannot: the odd shapes a motorized screen has to stop short of. A panel fills the gap beside an outdoor-kitchen counter that runs into the opening, closes the triangle under an angled roof line, finishes around the trim at the top and bottom of a post, and carries a screen door in the same frame line as the screens. The result is one sealed patio, screens and panels in the same frame color.
